Please double check to be sure you are planting the correct vines.
Ask Steve, Paul or anyone with a Map if you are unsure. Grapes get
ripe at different times and mixing them up in the vineyard is a major problem.
Plant all vines on the same side of the post.
Vines should be carried in buckets with a few inches of water in the bottom
to keep the roots wet. Take only a few at a time so they do not dry out.
Dig a hole 10-12 inches deep. Make a small mound in the middle of
the hole 3-4 inches high. Place a vine in the hole, drapping the roots
over the mound so they spread out. The vine should be 4-8 inches from
the post. Tamp soil around the roots and fill the hole with dirt, making
sure the vine is straight and upright.
The wax should be 3-8 inches above the fill level. Do not remove the
wax, it will come off on it's own as the vine grows (Stef and I learned this
the hard way). Place a vine tube over the vine. That's it, you're
a grape grower now.
